About the Museum
Founded in 2018, the Museum of Faceting Technology is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the art, science, and global heritage of gem cutting. What began as a modest private collection has evolved into a comprehensive institution that illuminates the ingenuity of lapidaries on every continent.
Our holdings were assembled through rigorous field research and on‑site acquisitions: a year‑long journey across the United States in 2022 uncovered rare American machines and archival texts, while expeditions through France’s historic Jura region in 2023 yielded early jambpeg benches and artisan tools. Each piece is documented in situ, ensuring that its provenance and the stories of its makers are faithfully preserved.
Today the museum safeguards 123 machines and accessories representing 24 countries and every major epoch of faceting history. Through rotating displays, an interactive digital catalog, and ongoing scholarship, we offer visitors an unparalleled view of how technology, craftsmanship, and culture converge at the facet’s edge. The museums curator, Justin K Prim, is extremely proud to be the steward of such an amazing collection.
